Barbelles for Breast Cancer wrap up:
Strength, Community, and Making a Difference
There’s a special kind of magic that happens when you gather a group of strong, determined women for a shared purpose. This weekend, that’s exactly what happened at our Barbelles for Breast Cancer fundraiser, and I’m still riding the high from an incredible day of fitness, fun, and community.
The goal was simple: bring women together to lift, sweat, laugh, and raise money for a cause that matters to so many of us. Breast cancer will affect 1 in 7 Australian women, and supporting awareness, research, and recovery efforts is something that feels personal. Our event wasn’t just about the workout—it was about creating a space where women could connect, celebrate their strength, and leave feeling empowered.
A Workout Worth Remembering
We designed a tough workout, but the focus wasn’t on how fast you finished or how much weight you lifted. It was about chipping away, supporting others around you and knowing you’ll get to the end…. eventually. Seeing everyone push through the challenge, cheer each other on, and lift each other up was nothing short of inspiring. There were high-fives, fist bumps, and moments when complete strangers encouraged each other through the hardest reps.
Fitness events like this show how powerful it is to move your body alongside others. The energy in the room was contagious, and I loved watching participants—some seasoned CrossFitters, others trying this style of workout for the first time—discover just how capable they are. Everyone had each other’s back, and you could feel the camaraderie growing as the workout progressed.
More Than Just a Workout
This event wasn’t only about physical strength—it was about fostering a sense of community. I loved seeing people cheering each other on despite never having met. It was heartwarming to hear the laughter filling the space, and everyone coming together to enjoy the food, drinks, and conversation after the workout.
One of the most beautiful things about this day was that we weren’t just there to exercise; we were contributing to something bigger. Thanks to the generosity of participants and sponsors, we raised funds to support breast cancer research and awareness, reminding us all of the importance of working toward a healthier future.
Personal Growth: From Imposter to Empowered
Hosting this event also marked a personal milestone for me. For years, I have struggled with imposter syndrome, always doubting whether I was good enough or qualified to lead. But on Sunday, standing in front of a crowd, sharing my passion for exercise, and encouraging women to lift heavy, I realised something: I do have something to offer. I’ve discovered that I’m not just passionate about fitness; I’m passionate about helping women feel strong—both physically and mentally.
Watching so many women show up, push through their limits, and walk away with a sense of accomplishment filled me with gratitude. I’ve learned that the ability to inspire others isn’t about being perfect—it’s about showing up, being yourself, and believing in what you do!
Looking Ahead
I’m already thinking about what’s next. The Barbelles for Breast Cancer event reminded me of how powerful it can be to bring people together for a cause. This was just the beginning, and I can’t wait to build on the momentum we’ve created. My goal is to continue organising events where women feel welcomed, supported, and encouraged to move, lift, and grow—inside and outside of the gym.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who participated, donated, and supported the event in any way. Whether you participated, donated, shared the event with your friends, or simply showed up to be part of the day, you’ve made a real impact. Together, we’ve not only raised over $750 for Breast Cancer Network Australia but also awareness.
Here’s to strength in every sense of the word—lifting, living, and supporting one another, one rep at a time.
